Care and Share Food Bank

Who needs food assistance? The answer to that question has changed during the economic downturn, according to Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado. A 2010 study [Feeding America and Mathematica Policy Research] showed that 44 percent of households served by Care and Share at some point had to choose between paying rent and buying food. The same survey showed that 27 percent of those served by Care and Share are children. Care and Share works with more than 400 member agencies in 31 counties covering 52,000 square miles. During the last fiscal year Care and Share distributed 18,453,953 million pounds of food, a 26.2 percent increase over the previous year.
